If you are planning a vacation, the easiest and safest way to carry your money just to leave it in the bank and use credit cards or debit cards instead. This way you do not have to worry about losing your money or have stolen. However, keep in mind that if you travel abroad without cash, there is always the possibility that the ATM machine will “eat” the card and failed to get back to you. Another problem one international traveler has pulled out several hundred dollars from his account and no money out of the engine. This can be a real problem if you are overseas and without cash.
It is common for thieves to hang out by the ATM machine waiting for the “tourism” to attract money. They then followed the man for several blocks and rob them. Another idea is to put your money in a plastic bag and store it inside your shoe. I read about someone who used this method successfully and it seems you are familiar with the nuances of plastic bags inside your shoes.
A money belt is another option. Keep the majority of cash in the belt and leave some in your wallet so you do not constantly have to go to the belt and reminding people to the location of your money.
While waiting in line to board a plane, leave your passport, ID, wallet, money, and so on in a pocket or bag until you are asked to present your boarding pass at the end of the line. With all the distractions it would be easy for someone to grab your stuff if you just stand and hold everything in your hands.
